Cinballera Salon: Opera at the Villa

Every month, Cinballera hosts its own opera night, Cinballera Salon: Opera at the Villa!

We host these monthly opera nights at the historic Villa Montezuma Museum at 1925 K Street in San Diego’s Sherman Heights Historic District. We are honored to partner with fellow non-profit organization Friends of the Villa Montezuma to bring you these performances month after month.

We call this series Cinballera Salon because it is a loving tribute to the musical salons of years past, when friends would gather in lovely parlor to enjoy sharing music for an evening.

The Villa Montezuma is the perfect place to present a Salon because it was built to be a Palace of Art, Music & Literature by Victorian musician and spiritualist Jesse Shepard, who designed the gorgeous music room as a place to perform his own compositions for choice guests in otherworldly soirees.

Today, we are inspired by his creativity and talent to find creative ways to bring vocal music to life at the Villa. Each evening has a different theme. Music on the programs include opera arias, art songs, and other classical vocal music, performed by talented operatic singers from throughout the region. There is a special emphasis on duets, trios, and other ensembles, to recreate opera scenes in an intimate setting.

We usually host these events on the third Monday of the month at 7 PM.

Cinballera Bundle

Cinballera is putting on two exciting performances in San Diego in September!

After a month off in August, we've got a wealth of music to offer at the end of summer.

First, we have our second mainstage show of Season 4, Sunset Boulevard: A Hollywood Ballopera. This five-person show is our original take on the 1950 Billy Wilder classic film, told through dialogue, opera, and ballet. It will feature five talented performers, creative cinematic production design, and beautiful Franz Waxman music. The story comes to life at the Old Town Theatre in San Diego for three performances- September 4th at 7 PM, 5th at 8 PM, or 6th at 3 PM.

Then, we're back at the Villa Montezuma after a dark month for our September Cinballera Salon - An Evening of Lieder. It's on Monday, September 21, at 7 PM, and the theme is "An Evening of Lieder." Don't miss this joyful celebration of German parlor music!

Fall Salon Bundle

2026 is our third season of the Cinballera Salon, and we're finishing up an exciting year with four dynamic Salons. Choose between our Deluxe Subscription, to come to all 4 Salons, and our Duo Salon Subscription, to come to any 2 Salons. Both offer great savings, since you can choose to come to our premium October Salon for a reduced rate.

September is Lieder of Germany. In October, crime and intrigue invade the Villa at the one-night-only premiere of our original chamber opera murder mystery, "Murder Hits High C." November is Songs of Fairytales. Finally, December will finish the year with an opera of Charles Dickens’s beloved "A Christmas Carol."
